About the client

An Austrian company that sells Japanese branded clothing for women and children. Birdie has a physical store in the center of Vienna, which local customers have already come to love. The target audience of the company is women and girls who prefer a relaxed style in clothing.

Client’s situation

Since the offline store received flattering feedback from the audience, the client decided to expand the brand’s reach and start shipping worldwide. To achieve this, a convenient website needed to be developed.

Task

To launch a fast and convenient online store in a short time in order to be present on the market not only offline, but also online. The website needs to set up and customize a template theme in accordance with Birdie’s style. Another important task was to integrate the website with the inventory management system and implement a secure and convenient payment system.

Wordpress theme customization

Solution

Develop a website on WordPress and WooCommerce platforms. We have expanded and edited the template theme to fit the company’s style, and added all the necessary functionality to it. In addition to the standard functions, many custom features have been implemented.

Usually projects on ready-made themes do not seem to be the most interesting, but here everything was different. Firstly, the client chose a good theme for customization, it was high-quality and convenient. In addition, we were able to work with the new inventory management system, Etron, and gain valuable experience.

Implemented features

NEW labels in the new products section

Automatic management of the NEW section

When the admin places a new product on the site, the system automatically assigns the NEW label to the product and places it in the new section. After 3 weeks, the label automatically disappears, the product disappears from the new products section and remains only in the category assigned by the administrator.

Pop-up with a product size grid

Pop-up with a dimensional grid

The store sells Japanese brands, whose size range may differ from the European one. To make it easier for users to navigate, we have added a pop-up that will help you choose the appropriate size from the grid.

Filtering by product color

Filter by color

For greater clarity, we have improved the standard functionality of the color filter. Now, in addition to the name, a color sample is also displayed in the list. It can be uploaded as an image or simply setted with the HEX code of a specific color using the ColorPicker functionality.

WooCommerce Etron, DHL, SendCloud, and GlobalPayments payment gateway integration

Integrations with external services

Integration with services for the store operation

We set up the integration with the Etron system to efficiently manage inventory, ensuring that product availability information is updated on the website in real time.

We have connected the GlobalPayments payment gateway to accept payments from anywhere in the world.

We have set up integration with DHL and the SendCloud service to ensure convenient delivery worldwide.

Speeding up the site

The more convenient and faster the site works, the higher the customer loyalty, and the higher it is displayed in the searching systems (SEO optimization). Therefore, in addition to a well-thought-out design, we addressed the technical aspects and optimized page loading speed.

Stages of work

01.

Design

A client came to us with a selected WordPress and WooCommerce theme that needed to be edited. Therefore, at the design stage, we drew several elements: a beautiful footer and menu, a quick-view pop-up and a window with a dimensional grid.

02.

Layout

For the layout of the updated elements, we used a standard set of tools: HTML, CSS and JS. With their help, we made visual edits and fixed bugs in the layout of the standard theme.

03.

Backend

On the backend, we needed to significantly enhance the standard functionality of WooCommerce: we implemented automatic label assignment for new products along with expiration dates, and improved the filtering system.

For website hosting, we set up a VPS on Hetzner, and for optimization, we used Redis and the standard WP Rocket plugin.

04.

Testing

We tested the site functionality, compatibility with different devices, performance, order security, integration with systems, size selection and SEO functionality. The testing was successful, and the result was a stable and reliable online store Birdie, able to serve customers without failures and malfunctions.

Results

  1. The successful launch of the Birdie brand online

We have developed not only an aesthetic, but also a functional store. Now the Birdie store can please not only local customers in Vienna, but also send orders all over the world.

  2. Online work automation

We integrated all the necessary functions to make it convenient for everyone: it was easy for businesses to sell, organize logistics and keep records of balances, and for customers to choose clothes on the site and pay for orders.

  3. Good SEO performance from the very first months

To achieve this effect, we customized the standard themes to align with the client’s business processes and optimized the website’s loading speed. Due to this, the user’s path on the site is not interrupted and search engines give the site high in the search.
